Carolyn Jackie Carroll, daughter of Claude and Mayme (Bokelman) Fortune was born July 13, 1937 in Dallas, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa at 84 years of age.

Carolyn grew up on the family farm near Melcher, graduating from Melcher-Dallas High School in 1955, having the pleasure of being homecoming queen. She was united in marriage to William “Bill” Turner Carroll on June 1, 1956 in Melcher, Iowa and three boys blessed this union, William Turner, Jr, Hugh Bradley, and Todd Fortune.

Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a very giving person, making birthdays and holidays very special for all. She definitely had a green thumb, growing beautiful flowers, ferns and loved to mow her yard. Her hobbies included collecting glassware and refinishing furniture, she was ahead of her time with recycling items and old glassware.

Carolyn retired from working her career as City Clerk of Leon after 30 years. She continued working as part-time city clerks for many towns in our community. She was an active member of the Weldon United Methodist Church, helping in many capacities and serving many years as church secretary and treasurer. Carolyn was very community oriented, she assisted many years organizing the Weldon Kid’s Day, helped raise money for the Weldon Depot, and Weldon Community Center, she was always there to help with anything needed for her community.

Those relatives who preceded Carolyn in death were her husband, Bill Carroll, parents, Claude and Mayme Fortune, sister, Betty Roberts and brother, Jerry Fortune and twin brother Jack Fortune.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her memory; son, Turner (Susan) Carroll of Weldon, IA, son, Hugh Bradley (Alicia) Carroll of Osceola, IA, son, Todd (Carolyn) Carroll of Weldon, IA, grandchildren, Amber (Roy) Schacherer of Osceola, IA, Monica (Jordan) Brown of Van Wert, IA, Briget Carroll of Ankeny, IA, great grandchildren, Layla (TJ), Owen, DeLaney, Addison, Gavin, and Hendrix, step-grandchildren, April, Aleasha and Jacob, step-great grandchildren, Jasmine, Andray, Gabby, Kamilah, Blaine, Wyatt and Waylon, sister, Joy (Rick) Jackson of Weldon, IA, brother, Jim (Twyla) Fortune of Newton, IA, sister-in-law, Marlys Pearcy of Leon, IA as well as other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be Thursday at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday evening.

Funeral services will be held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Friday March 18, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Lane officiating.

Interment will follow in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
