Irvel Jeanette Oshel, daughter of Christian C. and Marie Beatrice (Hunter) Francois was born August 14, 1926, in Anselmo, Nebraska and passed from this life Friday, December 2, 2022, at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa at 96 years of age.
Irvel’s grandparents homesteaded in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. She moved with her family at a young age to the Thayer, Iowa area and graduated from Thayer High School. She received her Normal Training Teaching Degree and attended Creston Junior College. Irvel was united in marriage to Clyde Merle Oshel on April 24, 1948, in Grant City, Missouri. They purchased their farm in Clarke County in March of 1953 where they farmed and raised their family. Clyde preceded her in death on February 6, 2007.
Irvel worked at the war plant in Burlington during WWII, was a schoolteacher from 1945 to 1956, a deputy Clerk of Court for 14 years, and she worked for Rilea’s Flowers all while she was a farm wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Family was number one to Irvel, she was always there for them, and enjoyed attending all the functions she could. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking, and farming. She was a member of many groups, including The Order of The Eastern Star, TOPS, Red Hat Society, an active member of Murray United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, and a proud supporter of her community. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the Clarke County Hospital. She will be greatly missed.
Irvel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde, son Randy, brother Richard Francois, and parents-in-law.
Irvel leaves to cherish her memory; son, Rick (Beth) Oshel and daughter, Linda (Mike) Abbott, all of Osceola, Iowa. Grandchildren Erin (Matthew) Cumings of Prole, Iowa, Alyx (Matt) Shultz of New Concord, Kentucky, Anne (John) Sneller of Earlham, Iowa, Ethan (Amanda) Abbott of Osceola, Iowa, and Spencer (Kaitie) Abbott of Murray, Iowa. Great-grandchildren Tara Cumings, Scarlett, Addy, and James Shultz, Hayden Sneller, Riley, Dawson, and Conner Abbott, and many others who called her “Grandma O”.
Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, Wednesday December 7, 2022, at 11:00 am with Pastor Marty Burgus officiating.
Family greeted friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at Kale Funeral Home.

Interment was in the Murray Cemetery.
