Harvey Gene German, Jr., known to family and friends as Gene, passed from this life Friday, December 30, 2022.
Gene was born in Mt Ayr, Iowa on April 06, 1961, to Harvey Gene German, Sr. and Mary Ann German of Murray, Iowa, and received his education at Murray Community School. Gene completed his G.E.D. and enlisted in The United States Army. He was united in marriage to Kristina Marie Battani in Osceola Iowa on November 06, 1982, and from this union two children were born: Tiffany Marie and Ashley Louise.
For many years, he worked alongside his father Harvey and brother Mike installing house siding.
Everyone knew Gene to be an avid reader and a devout Christian. He knew the Bible nearly verse for verse, participating regularly in Bible studies and spending countless hours in his car listening to radio broadcast sermons. Gene’s faith was clearly his compass in every aspect of his life.
Gene was a kind soul and dearly loved his family, spending days and evenings with them enjoying simple pleasures - hot coffee, conversation around any topic light or deep, and especially a good joke or two. He was very kind and giving and never passed up a chance to help someone in need, often donating to St Jude’s and various other charities. He also enjoyed taking short vacations to experience the world outside his hometown: the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Tennessee; the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia; the Kansas City Art Museum; San Diego, CA; and other national monuments and treasures. Whenever he could, he travelled to Missouri to visit his sisters Brenda, Penny and Jodi. When at home, Gene spent most of his time with his mother, Mary; brother, Mike; and sister, Teresa and her husband, Matt; and with his grandchildren, Artimis, Fancy and Frankie, who were the apples of his eye.
