Steven Richard West, son of Merle Richard West and Nadine Marie (Hale) West was born December 7, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa and passed away, Friday, February 24, 2023 at Southern Hills Specialty Care in Osceola after a prolonged illness at the age of 68.
Steve graduated from Central Decatur High School in 1973, where he enjoyed football, wrestling, FFA and 4-H. Steve’s passion was hunting, fishing and gardening. He was especially proud of his vegetable and hot pepper crops. He loved animals, owning and raising llamas, emus, sheep, goats, and cattle throughout his life. Steve also enjoyed soap operas and Swamp People.
Steve was united in marriage to Linda Kay Halterman on March 4, 1996, joining their families together including: Wendy (Kit) Higgins of Boxholm, IA, Chad and Brooke West of Decatur City, IA, Alyssum Jones of Murray, IA, and Josh (Megan) Halterman of Leon, IA.
Steve was preceded in death by grandparents, Garnett and Effie West; Charles and Juanita Hale and his parents, Merle and Nadine West.
Steve is survived by his wife Linda West of Osceola, IA; children, Wendy (Kit) Higgins, Chad and Brooke West, Alyssum Jones, Josh and Megan Halterman; 14 grandchildren, Briana, Sara, Copper, Savannah, Karlee, Leslie, Andrew, Bobbi, Nathaniel, Christopher, William, Damien, Ember, and Kynlee. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren, Layla, Stanley, and Jamiah; sister, Lynn Shell of Lamoni, IA; niece, Brittney (Shane) Hunt of Lamoni, IA; nephew, Cody West and significant other, Rachel McDaniel of Tingley, IA, mother-in-law, Barb (Bob) Gill of Sewel, IA; brother-in-law, Donnie Halterman and significant other, Helen of Woodburn, sister-in-law, Lori Underwood and niece Amanda Flowers, both of Woodburn, as well as a host of family and friends.
Steve’s green thumb and sense of humor will be greatly missed.Memorial services will be Friday, March 3, 2023 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with his family greeting friends one hour prior to the services from 2:00 until 3:00 on Friday.
Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for a fitting tribute to be decided at a later date.
