Jeannie Siefkas

Indianola, formerly Murray

Martha Jean “Jeannie” (Cheers) Siefkas, 86, passed away Monday, April 3, 2023 at Westview Care Center in Indianola, IA where she called home for the last 6 years.

Jeannie was born on April 25, 1936 to Frank and Hannah (Gray) Cheers in Lacona, IA. She graduated from Arispe High School in 1954 and then married Bud Siefkas on July 8,1956. Together they raised two daughters, Patty & Pam.

They made their home on a farm south of Murray and lived there until Bud’s passing in 2009. Jeannie then moved to Osceola and lived there until 2016 when she moved to Westview Care Center in Indianola, IA.

Jeannie lived a full and wonderful life. She was a farm wife helping Bud on their farm for many years. Jeannie cleaned many houses in the Osceola area and worked at Kale Funeral Home for 32 years. She was very talented and crafty; enjoying sewing, making quilts, ceramics, and painting pictures to name a few. She really could do it all. Jeannie had a wonderful sense of humor and never knew a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Bud, her parents, a sister Joan Hartsook and her husband Wayne, and a brother Bob Cheers.

She will be greatly missed by her daughters Patty (Randy) Barkema of Waterloo, IA and Pam (Rocky) Roberts of New Virginia, IA, 5 grandchildren Marah (Steven) Wirtz of Boone, IA, Haley (Alex) Meyer of DeWitt, MI, Lacey (Jonathan) Camacho of Covina, CA, Tori (Cody) Virchow of Osceola, IA & Tyler Roberts of Indianola, IA, 7 great grandchildren Teagan & Keeley Wirtz, Kael & Joanna Meyer, Leila & Danielle Camacho, and Landon Roberts, Sisters Ferne Abell & Merry (Jerry) Nurnberg of Creston, IA, brother Terry (Marsha) Cheers of Afton, IA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Westview Care Center in Indianola for their special care of Jeannie and also to Suncrest Hospice of West Des Moines, IA. You all truly were her “family”!
