Pete Sheesley

Osceola

On June 3, 2023, James “Pete” Raymond Sheesley, 82, of Osceola, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Patricia (Blanchard) at his side. I’ll Fly Away was sung to him as he soared to his heavenly cabin on the hill.

Pete and Patricia were married on February 16, 1979, in Creston, Iowa. They resided and worked on a farm in Clarke County for a time before moving to Osceola in 1982. They remained in the same home for over 30 years.

Pete held many jobs throughout his life. He enjoyed working with his hands, building and tinkering, but his favorite role was being a Pastor. He was saved, along with Patricia, in 1985, and he touched many lives through his service to the Lord. One of his many passions was serving the community, and he did so in many ways, such as creating a food pantry. The pantry was created in honor of his mother, Dorothy (Hansen) and began out of the basement of their home. Currently it is run out of the Osceola Full Gospel Church, where Pete was the pastor.

Camping was Pete’s favorite pastime. His most memorable trip was with Patricia and the Ashby family in South Dakota. He enjoyed seeing the buffalo, mules, and other wild animals. He also enjoyed taking the back roads and just being able to spend time with friends. Pete liked to take more frequent trips in the camper to 3 Mile to fish and relax as well.

Pete was predeceased by his father, Pearl James, his mother, Dorothy, daughter, Brenda Young and sister Joan Reynolds.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and his dearest daughters Tammy (John) Deering, Tonya (Don) Kelso, Teresa (Evan) Graham, and Terry (Don) Clark, sister Bonnie Allen, as well as many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by daughter Sandy (Doug) Moore, and stepson Jeff (Linda) Norris.
