Rebecca Joyce Watt
1945 – 2025
Rebecca Joyce Watt, 79, of Osceola, Iowa passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on February 7, 2025.
She was born December 28, 1945 in Dodge City, Kansas the daughter of James and Nellie (Trotter) Knox.
Rebecca grew up around Kingman County, Kansas. Her parents were wheat farmers in the area. She cherished her childhood and spoke of it often, including her buckskin cutting horse that lived to be nearly 30 years old. Graduating from Kingman High School, she went on to business school in Wichita, Kansas, moving in with her aunt and uncle.
On February 19, 1965, she married James Watt in Wichita, Kansas. They relocated to the St. Charles, Missouri area for a couple of years where they had their first child, Annette Marie. After a couple of years, they moved to Independence, Missouri where they had Paul, Andrew, Benjamin, Samuel and Jesse and lived there until 1988. They then relocated to Tucson, Arizona and then to Mesa. In 1990, they moved to Des Moines, Iowa and were there until 2003, finally moving to a small homestead in rural Osceola.
While in Osceola, Rebecca and Jim raised cows, goats, chickens, rabbits, hunting dogs and a multitude of farm cats. In addition, they started a small orchard with apples, pears, apricots, blackberries, grapes and raspberries.
Rebecca loved to sew and make the most beautiful quilts for her children, all of which are cherished by each.
Her pride and joy was her family of 6 kids, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
She would make everyone sample her “wheat grass juice” of which they’d all turn up their nose at, but drank anyway out of love and respect for Mom and Grandma...and of course to avoid “the look”.
She was a powerful witness for Jesus, deeply affecting the lives of those around her. She loved deeply and was a fierce advocate for her family and dear friends.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nellie Knox; her son, Paul Aaron Watt and her siblings, Margaret, Martha, Mary, Sam and Paul.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of nearly 60 years, Jim Watt; her children, Annette (James) Hensley, Andrew (Stacy) Watt, Benjamin (Jenny) Watt, Samuel (Alicia) Watt and Jesse Watt as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rebecca has been cremated under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany, MO.
