One citation was issued following a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Clarke Elementary School, 231 S. Kossuth St.
According to an Osceola police report, officers were dispatched to the Clarke Elementary parking lot, where they met with the owner of a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500. The owner advised that he was not in the vehicle when the accident occurred, as his truck was parked. He told officers that the driver of a 2012 Mazda Mazda6 had been traveling through the parking lot going east at a faster than normal speed, and was currently in the school nurse’s office being evaluated.
Officers made contact with the driver of Mazda, Kimberly Martinez-Andrade of Osceola. Martinez-Andrade told officers that she was late to work, and driving fast through the parking lot when she saw someone to her left. She was looking in that direction when she struck the Dodge, causing her to bump the driver door glass with her head. Martinez-Andrade only had an instructional permit, and was not supposed to operate the vehicle alone.
Damage is estimated at $5,000 to the 2015 Dodge and $5,000 to the 2012 Mazda. Martinez-Andrade was cited for violation of instruction permit.
