Oct. 3 accident reports

No citations were filed following an accident on Sept. 18 in the 100-block of N. Fillmore St.

According to an Osceola police report, Devon Gray of Castonia, NC was traveling north on Fillmore St. in a 2012 Hino Straight truck when he came to the underpass on N. Fillmore St. The underpass is marked with signs that indicate a clearance of 10′10″ while the front of the cargo box on Gray’s truck indicated a height of 13′. When Gray attempted to go through the underpass, the top of the cargo box struck and was removed.

When officers arrived on the scene, Gray was parked halfway in a private driveway and partly on Webster St., with the top of the cargo box on the ground behind the truck. Gray indicated that he was a new driver, and following the route given by Google Maps, and did not think about the possibility of the truck not fitting under the underpass.

Damage is estimated at $15,000 to the 2023 Hino. There did not appear to be any damage to the cement underpass.
