The 2021 Conference Cross Country meet was held at the Eddyville high school campus on Tuesday, October 12th. The Davis County boys dominated the male team competition, while Albia’s girls earned championship status. Clarke’s senior Ethan Domina pushed to a 10th place finish, beating out teammate Cal Lundquist, to nab the final place for All-Conference, helping his team to place 5th. The girls did not have enough runners for a team, but freshman Claire Jacobsen finished 19th.
Mount Ayr hosted Clarke’s last regular Cross Country meet of the season. The weather was warm, the course was challenging, but the energy at the meet made it satisfying and fun. Ethan Domina led the Clarke boys with a 22nd finish, followed closely by junior teammate Cal Lundquist at 23. Freshmen harriers Cooper Bahls and Micah Domina placed 28th and 29th respectively, as teammate and classmate, Devante Caldwell finished in the 55th spot. Overall, the Clarke boys team captured 3rd place out of 15 teams, ending their regular season on a successful note. The girls were led by Claire Jacobsen, 19th, followed by junior Audrey Pontier, in 24th.
Clarke ran 3A State Qualifying races at Winterset. Ironically, the last meet was about 50 degrees cooler than our season opener in Granger. While there were personal goals and times set at that meet, Clarke did not have any top 15 finishers to qualify for the State meet in Fort Dodge.
