The Murray girls and boys basketball teams participated in the Bluegrass Conference Tournament last week, with both team winning two of their three games.
ANKENY -- The Lady Mustangs faced off against the Orient-Macksburg Lady Bulldogs last Monday at Ankeny Christian for the first round of the Bluegrass Conference (BGC) Tournament. They came out the winners 53-49 in a game that saw them take the early lead over their opponent, who came back in the fourth with more points but not enough to overcome.
Maliya Berry put up 20 total points, followed by Leah Frederick with nine, Keirsten Klein and Karina Romero with eight each, Aylah Miller with six and Mallory Page two; Frederick had the team’s two, three point baskets. Berry totaled 11 total rebounds - six offensive and five defensive - and Miller made seven steals.

MELCHER-DALLAS -- The girls won their BGC semifinal on Thursday 45-42 over Ankeny Christian. They took a small lead early in the game that they were able to keep through to the end.
Berry scored another 20 points in the game, including one three-point shot. Romero put up seven, and six each came from Frederick, Klein and Miller. Berry had the team high rebounds with 15, five offensive and 10 defensive.

MELCHER-DALLAS -- An overtime game on Friday had the Lamoni Demons score just one point more than the Murray Mustangs in the BGC Finals. Tied 6-6 at the end of the first quarter, Lamoni put up 10 points to Murray’s eight to go into halftime leading by two baskets 16-14. The third quarter saw Lamoni keep a four point lead, before Murray put up 13 in the fourth to bring the final score to 37-37. In overtime, Lamoni banked six to Murray’s five to win the contest.

ANKENY -- At Ankeny Christian last Tuesday, the Murray Mustangs topped the Moulton-Udell Eagles 67-35 in their first Bluegrass Conference (BGC) tourney game. Though the teams were close going into halftime with Murray leading by just two points, 16-14, they managed to pull away in the final two to emerge the victors.
Four Mustangs made double-digit points - Caden Page with 16, Austin Peterson with 14, AJ Clarke with 13 and Jacob Keller with 11. Clarke put up two, 3- point shots and Bryson Fuller had one. Peterson led team rebounds with 12 total - three offensive and nine defensive. Page had the high steals and assists with eight and seven respectively.

MELCHER-DALLAS -- On Friday, the Mustangs faced off against the Moravia Mohawks in the BGC Tournament, falling 68-33. The Mohawks held the Mustangs to only five points apiece in the first and second halves, and 11 and 12 in the final two.
In the third place match of the BGC Tourney Saturday, the Murray boys emerged victorious over Seymour 53-43. With the Warriors on their heels in the third, the Mustangs ran ahead to stay on top.
